Marijke Greenway is an artist with three nationalities that have made up her life experiences – born in Holland, then emigrating with her parents to South Africa and eventually choosing to live in Australia with husband and three children during 1988.
Her early art studies took place in South Africa, but it was in Australia that she became most prolific in her output and variety of subject matter and became equally at home with oils, watercolours and acrylics.
Marijke has accumulated an impressive list of awards and commendations for her work and she has been widely exhibited, both in group and solo exhibitions.
She has been published with major contributions to art magazines and is also a member of the Royal Art Society and the Central Coast Art Society. She is a popular watercolour teacher and has tutored regularly for 12 years.
Plein air painting is what she does best – ninety five per cent of her work is painted on site – her favourite subject at present being trees. She finds immense satisfaction in capturing the sense of “being there” – of distilling the essence of nature and recording all the permutations of colour seen and felt.
Marijke opens her Studio/Gallery at her home in Pearl Beach most Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm.
