Born in London, David won art prizes at school and went on to study illustration at art college in England. After obtaining his degree he travelled around Europe and spent some years on the Greek island of Corfu earning a living painting local scenes and as a portrait sketch artist in the island’s top hotels.

David says he has always kept sketchbooks and having moved to Sydney in 2000 began recording his local area, Balmain, in pen and ink drawings. This led to his first Balmain Calendar of 2005 and his drawings becoming part of Balmain Library’s Local History Collection, whihc was followed later with watercolour calendars of Balmain, Mosman, Annandale and Glebe.

David has illustrated two children’s books about the environment, one of which, Weather or Not: It’s a Climate for Change, was shortlisted for the 2008 Wilderness Society’s Environment Award for Children’s Literature.
